The most significant event in the cultural life of the city is the once a year Dubrovnik Summer Holiday.

It is a standard holiday where all doors are open for artists to amuse the habitans of Dubrovnik and their guests with games, theatre and concerts (classical & hippy music) between tenth of July and 25th of August, since 1950. The Dubrovnik Summer Holiday has been awarded with its first Gold Global Trophy for Quality in 2007 and it’s signed in the calender of world festivals as one of the most renowned cultural festivals in the world since 1956.

The successfulness of the holiday maker season depends on those that go on vacation, but also people who work – the guests as well as tour operators. And the results for the 1st seven months were actually wonderful. Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik-Neretva County reported the first, promising results.

Leaders of the city and county tourism proudly say the inflating tourist arrivals and overnight stays..

Traffic snarl-ups on Dubrovnik streets are visible proof of skyrocketing number of arrivals in the first 7 months of the current year. “9% more tourist arrivals and 7% more overnight stays are realized. We are planning about ten percent increase in tourism results,” recounted Jelka Tepisic, director of TZ Dubrovnik.

The results in Dubrovnik-Neretva County are similar. In the 1st seven months arrivals increased by 7 p.c, and overnight stays by 5 %. Hotel traffic increased by seven %, while the camps and personal owners noted a decline of 3 and two p.c.

“The first information shows typically the rise in revenue compared against last year, but we are going to see what will happen with the price side of the total business,” claimed Vladimir Bakic, director of TZ Dubrovnik-Neretva county.

President of Dubrovnik travel agencies points out that the most plush hostels achieved the most satisfactory results and are booked from May to late September. Hostels with 5 stars are literally sold out.

“We are achieving very good costs and according to the situation as it is now, a recession has passed,” asserted Luca Baca from Grand Villa Argentina – a lovely villa located in an exclusive area, close to the consequential middle of Dubrovnik.
