Call or check the website for Belly Up Aspen, a hip little bar downtown that seats a little over 400 so you are guaranteed a good seat for the celebrated artists and groups that perform almost every night of the year. Zane’s Tavern is a favorite Aspen sports bar, but their menu goes far outside general bar food. It is almost a contradiction, but the menu at this sports bar is delicious and not what you would expect. The atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming.
If you are little more hardcore, you will want to make a visit to Bad Billy’s, a biker bar with an Aspen tilt. The music is loud and the atmosphere is wildly merry, but there is no danger here – just nice eats, with lively folks and happy hour.
For the more cerebral set – or those just looking for something less typical – there are quite a few celebrated and highly active cultural and intellectual organizations in Aspen and there is always some event happening.
The Aspen Music Festival and School puts on numerous shows ranging from piano recitals to symphony performances. A Multitude of guest conductors are brought in to expand the musical knowledge of the region.
Political, social, economic and even metaphysical discussion is the forte of the Aspen Institute, which organizes the Aspen Ideas Festival and many other speakers throughout the year. This is the very urbane and refined side of Aspen night life. The speeches are often given at Aspen’s historic Wheeler Opera House.
