Imagine a lovely sandy white beach only 15 minutes drive away from Fremantle and Perth. This is Cottesloe Beach.
Cottesloe Beach
A beach dotted with majestic Norfolk pine trees and well-sheltered picnic areas. A perfect beach for snorkeling, swimming, surfing and chilling out. Nearby you’ll see cafes, shops and pubs to keep you and the family happy as well.
This is Cottesloe Beach, arguably Perth’s most popular beach and rightly so. It’s a great place to watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean while kicking back with a cold beer or glass of wine. There is also a nice view of Rottnest Island about 20 kms offshore.
The water is perfect for a cool refreshing swim. There’s also a reef to one side that is very popular for snorkeling due to the large variety of fish to be seen. If you are lucky enough, you might even spot a weedy sea dragon. Or even better, a leafy seadragon. The reef has been classified as a Fish Habitat Protection Area.
Your safety is regularly monitored by the Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club from a strategic position right under the Indiana Teahouse. If you go on a Sunday morning, you’ll see the lifesavers doing all sorts of drills and exercises with their club members which can be very interesting.
The beach is open all year but surfing with hard boards is restricted to the winter months. This is fine though as in summer there is no surf to speak of anyway. You’ll have to drive down south to the Yallingup and Margaret River for that.
Besides driving, you can get to Cottesloe Beach on a regular Transperth bus from Fremantle and Perth. You can also take the train but it’s approx 20-25 min walk from the train station.
