For a UK city break you can;t beat York. Although its Northern location means you might not get the perfect weather, it is still the perfect city for a romantic, cultural break. There’s too much to see in one day, so you’ll almost certainly need a couple of days and a hotel, York has plenty though.

There is no place quite like this small and historical city. It has an unmatched number of charming cobbled streets with everything from large chain stores to small, independent, local shops. As well as all this there is exquisite architecture in the form of the beautiful York Minster and the beautiful river with its many riverside cafes and bars to relax in.

The city’s heritage includes influences from the Romans, the Viking and Medieval times and as a result the city has some great museums, including the Jorvik Viking Centre and the York Dungeons. The National Railway museum offers a more modern museum day out.

Further afield from your hotel, York offers easy access to the dales and the wider countryside. The gardens at nearby Harewood House are a must see for green fingered visitors.

Regardless of the season, there’s always something going on in the city. Many festivals, exhibitions and fairs visit the town. There’s the railway show, the Roman festival and the races as well as frequent markets offering produce from the local region and further afield.

When it comes to finding a hotel, York has great choice. Alwark Manor is a luxurious hotel York prides itself on. This is great choice because it has a golf course and spa to relax in after sight-seeing.
